According to Euromonitor, currently, roughly four in every five beverage cans in the Americas are used to contain either beer or carbonates. These two have always been the dominant categories in cans, and will continue to be for the foreseeable future, but they are losing their grip. During 2022-2027, over a third of metal can growth in the area will come from a non-traditional category and the most important is energy drinks.
According to a new report from Smithers, the global specialty paper market will reach 26.52 million tons in 2023 up from 24.23 million tons in 2018. Consumer perceptions of alcoholic beverages packed in paper bottles
In a study (1.22 MB) published in Psychology & Marketing, NTU researchers found that consumers hold inferior expectations (i.e., sensory attributes, price, and purchase likelihood) toward alcoholic beverages packed in paper bottles. They also found that enforced messaging and packaging aesthetics can alter these expectations.

‘Well Packaged’ project
HAS green academy, the THUAS and the AUAS have published the results (in Dutch, 6.51 MB) of the ‘Well Packaged’ project (in Dutch). The main research question was: "How can food companies sustainably meet end-user needs with a product-packaging combination that fits within a circular economy and complies with chain requirements?"

Sustainable Food Monitor 2022
According to the Sustainable Food Monitor 2022 (in Dutch, 506 kB) published by WUR, the proportion of sustainable food in total consumer food spending in the Netherlands declined slightly from 19% in 2021 to 18% in 2022.

Consumers confused about reusable packaging
According to a recent survey by Stora Enso, consumers have a positive attitude toward reusable packaging, but few understand what it really means.
