The future of packaging according to packaging professionals
A report by Aquapak Polymers shows that investments in sustainable packaging material will increase over the next five years in the EU. This rise in funding is reflected in the predicted increase in use of multi material (a combination of paper and plastic), new polymers and paper, whilst the use of polyethylene is set to decline. Industrial Physics recently conducted an international survey of packaging professionals to understand more about the drivers and obstacles impacting the packaging industry within the next five to ten years. The findings show a strong appetite for innovation, with the overwhelming majority of respondents (96%) agreeing it is important for companies to explore new packaging developments.
Consumer perceptions on prefilled returnable packaging
A report released by City to Sea and Re provides insight into UK consumer perceptions, barriers and motivations relating to prefilled returnable packaging. 69% of respondents indicated they are likely or very likely to try products in returnable packaging if they are available where they shop, but lack of availability is preventing trial. A paper (1.08 MB) published in Business Research Proceedings presents a conceptual framework for when and how consumers can shift to environmentally friendly packaging. The authors from the Indian Institute of Management Amritsar based the framework on the nudge theory.
