Packaging and packaging machinery markets
According to a recent report (521 kB) by ING, US and EU consumers are using more, not less, packaging. Food and drink producers are facing a sustainability dilemma. The need for eco-friendly packaging is growing, but it costs more and often is not as versatile.

The future of packaging according to packaging professionals
A report by Aquapak Polymers shows that investments in sustainable packaging material will increase over the next five years in the EU. This rise in funding is reflected in the predicted increase in use of multi material (a combination of paper and plastic), new polymers and paper, whilst the use of polyethylene is set to decline. Industrial Physics recently conducted an international survey of packaging professionals to understand more about the drivers and obstacles impacting the packaging industry within the next five to ten years. The findings show a strong appetite for innovation, with the overwhelming majority of respondents (96%) agreeing it is important for companies to explore new packaging developments.

Consumer perceptions on prefilled returnable packaging
A report released by City to Sea and Re provides insight into UK consumer perceptions, barriers and motivations relating to prefilled returnable packaging. 69% of respondents indicated they are likely or very likely to try products in returnable packaging if they are available where they shop, but lack of availability is preventing trial. Sustainable packaging
For ICED23, TU Dresden researchers present a literature review (551 kB) on sustainable packaging design in the cosmetics industry.
A paper (1.08 MB) published in Business Research Proceedings presents a conceptual framework for when and how consumers can shift to environmentally friendly packaging. The authors from the Indian Institute of Management Amritsar based the framework on the nudge theory.

Dutch trade magazine Vraag en Aanbod publishes a weekly overview of the prices for plastics (in Dutch). The prices given are estimated averages between the gross prices published in the trade journals and the net prices.
