Food industry in The Netherlands: more focus on product and branding, less on relationship with retail’

The right product offering and branding is the most important topic in the food manufacturer’s boardroom in 2014. For food retailers, the hottest topic is the economy and the consumer demand. This is concluded in the GfK FNLI Top Topics FMCG Sector Report 2014. For this study, 138 directors within the FMCG sector gave their vision on their business priorities.
Food manufacturers are increasingly aware that investing in brands and product innovation is essential for growth. Food retailers are concentrating on the economy and consumer demand. The trading-down effect and the strong orientation of the consumer on prices is hitting the food retail ‘in their heart’, according to the authors.
