Plastic manufacturers provide insufficient data

29 October 2014

Every company involved in the manufacture of food contact materials must verify whether the substances introduced through their work processes are harmful to health. The cantonal food control Aargau, St. Gallen and Zurich checked this self-regulation in nine major international companies that produce most of the polyethylene and polypropylene for food packaging.
None of the companies has submitted the requested evidence to the supervisory authorities. The supervisory authorities asked the world's major manufacturers of plastic materials for the appropriate documentation for the safety assessment of nine base materials (Announcement Kanton Zürich, 30 September 2014).
