NL: Letter to House of Representatives on origin labelling of ‘meat as an ingredient’

07 May 2014

In a letter to the House of Representatives, minister Schippers stated her position on origin labelling of meat as an ingredient in food products. She responds to the European Commission report investigating three possible scenarios on origin labelling.
According to Schippers, consumers have the right to know where products come from, even if the origin labelling implementation would mean a burden for industry and regulators. Schippers welcomes the compulsory indication of origin labelling of ‘meat as an ingredient’ on level of EU member states or third countries, and stresses that this action will not cause distortion of competition (Rijksoverheid Documents and publications, 21 March 2014).
