GS1 Datapool - European harmonization of labelling information for online providers of packaged foods

08 May 2014

Regulation EU No. 1169/2011 requires that food offered online has to comply with the mandatory label information. Online food providers frequently operate across borders, and might get help from GS1 Europe’s guidelines to comply to this law.
The GS1 data pool enables sharing of label information, and focusses on minimising the number of required operations for input and changes of data. The extension of information from the GS1 data pool to the consumer provides the possibility of offering extra service and value, but other aspects are also of vital importance, for example providing dietary information and information on allergens (GS1 News Release, 18 April 2014).
