France publishes draft waste prevention plan

03 February 2014

The Ministry of Ecology, Durable Development and Energy has published a draft National Waste Prevention Plan for 2014-2020. The plan reviews past waste prevention efforts from 2004 through 2013, then discusses 55 actions that France will undertake during the next six years.
The plan places specific waste streams into three levels of priority based on factors such as tonnage generated and environmental impact. Industrial packaging is in the first priority level and household packaging in the second. Among the 55 actions is prevention of commercial/business and household waste generation. Combatting marine litter is another of the actions (Recycling Laws International, 8 January 2014).
