FR: Ways to boost recycling of bag-in-box wine packaging

08 July 2016

French packaging compliance organisation Adelphe projects that about 65% of the wine consumed in France this summer (by volume) will be in bag-in-box packages. Adelphe states that recycling of this packaging challenges the recycling habits of French consumers. The plastic bags containing wine need to be separated from the cardboard boxes prior to collection. 200 local governments are participating in efforts to improve consumer recycling instructions to make bag-in-box packaging easier for sorting centers to handle. Only 15% of France' 240 sorting centres are able to effectively manage the new plastic packaging flows such as bag-in-box (Recycling Laws Update Bulletin, 15 June 2016).
