FDA targets illegal online pharmacies in globally coordinated action

01 July 2014

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, in partnership with other federal and international agencies, has taken action against websites that sell potentially dangerous, unapproved prescription drugs to U.S. consumers. The FDA and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection also conducted extensive examinations at U.S.-based international mail facilities and found that most of the examined packages contained illegal prescription drugs that had been ordered from online sources.
The FDA provides consumers with information on how to identify an illegal pharmacy website and advice on how to find a safe online pharmacy through BeSafeRx: Know Your Online Pharmacy (FDA News Release, 22 May 2014).
