EU: Glass recycling reached 74% in 2014

18 November 2016

Data published by the European Container Glass Federation (FEVE) show that the EU28 average recycling rate for glass packaging reached 74% in 2014. This means that over 11.6 million tons were collected or 3.5% more than in the previous year. Countries like Sweden, Belgium, Germany or Slovenia continue to outperform. Austria and Denmark recorded a slight decrease in recycling despite a positive consumption trend. In some countries like The Netherlands the downward trend was on par with shrinking consumption. In Spain or Bulgaria, glass recycling is steadily increasing. There is still an important gap to fill in Romania, Cyprus, Slovakia or Greece (Press Release FEVE, 3 November 2016).
