EU: Almost 59% PET bottles collected for recycling in 2015

17 November 2016

With over 1.8 million tonnes of collected and recycled PET bottles, the 2015 European PET collection and recycling volumes have increased by 5% compared to 2014. This means that nearly 59% of all bottles placed in the European market have been collected for recycling in 2015, outlining an increase of 2% points compared to the 2014 collection rate.
These conclusions come from the annual PCI Wood Mackenzie report on post-consumer PET collection and recycling in Europe. As an outlook, the report concludes that the volume collected by 2020 will reach over 2 million metric tonnes, with an expected average collection rate of over 60% (Press Release Petcore Europe, 7 November 2016).
