EU: Action plan for future of organic production includes surveys on consumers' awareness of the EU organic logo

The review of the EU policy on organic agriculture in 2012-2013 results in an action plan, aiming at supporting the growth of the organic farming sector and the challenges of production and demand. In this context, the EU organic logo has been reviewed as well.
For consumers the presence of the EU organic logo on food labels is the main means of identifying organic products. The use of this logo is since 2012 compulsory for all pre-packed organic food produced in the EU. About 25% of respondents signalled awareness of the EU organic logo. The action pan foresees periodical survey’s on consumer’s awareness of the EU organic logo (European Commission Press Release, 25 March 2014).
