Third module PicknPack packaging line developed

01 March 2016

During the packaging of fruits and vegetables and producing ready-to-eat meals the quality inspection is often still mainly done through visual inspection by operators. The PicknPack project aims to improve this quality inspection and automate it with the help of sensors.
A combination of RGB and 3D camera vision provides contactless determination of the weight of the individual fruits in a cluster, and detects visual defects on the surface. The ripeness of the individual fruits is accurately assessed with a hyperspectral camera, which can also be used to detect defects at and right beneath the surface. The internal quality is also checked (News Item WUR, 17 February 2016).
