Consumer most important link to prevent food waste

18 December 2014

Compared to 2010, Dutch consumers are a lot more conscious of food waste and they are more prepared to do something about it. This is one of the conclusions of the ‘sustainability compass’ (Duurzaamheidkompas), a periodical survey by Schuttelaar & Partners and MarketResponse.
Consumers believe that they themselves can do the most to prevent food waste (77%). Paying more attention to the ‘best before’ date is in the top three of the measures consumers believe they can take. More than half of the consumers are of the opinion that the retail and the catering industry can also help. A variable portion size is seen as a useful measure (News Item Schuttelaar & Partners, December 2014).
