CBL: Finally unambiguous monitoring of food safety in entire Europe

13 May 2014

The European Parliament has accepted the proposal for a harmonised system for performing official inspections on companies in the food chain. The Dutch CBL (Central Bureau Food Retail) is pleased that Europe is striving for a uniform approach, because products that are sold in the Netherlands are not only produced in the Netherlands, but often also in other EU countries.
Food safety can be improved when all countries in the EU use the same standards for food safety inspections. The recent incidents with unsafe food have shown that fraud or unsafe working conditions in foreign countries can lead to undesired situations in the Netherlands (Press Release CBL, 16 April 2014).
