70% of small food producers and importers do not have their food contact materials documentation in order

Food companies have to comply with the legal limits for the possible migration of harmful substances from packaging to foods. That is why they, as users of packaging materials, have to use specifications these packaging materials have to meet according to food contact regulations.
Research of the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) shows that 70% of the investigated small food companies do not have their food contact materials documentation in order and do not properly use the information provided by their suppliers. Of the large food companies the documentation is not in order in 30% of the cases (NVWA announcements food safety, 26 May 2014).
