UK: Welsh Government considers landfill and incineration bans on key materials

08 November 2013

The Welsh Government has launched a public consultation on a white paper it prepared that makes arguments for a possible new Environment Bill. The bill would focus on managing natural resources, and the white paper seeks to implement actions to increase resource efficiency, such as encourage more recycling.
It includes a number of proposals including banning landfilling and waste to energy recovery of key materials and placing charges on non-single-use carrier bags.
The “key materials” are paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal, food and wood waste. The public consultation closes on January 15 (Recycling Laws International, 1 November 2013).
