Taiwan drafts Resource Reuse and Recycling Act

01 October 2013

The Premier of the Republic of China (ROC) has announced that the draft Resource Reuse and Recycling Act, which would combine the Waste Disposal Act and the Resource Recycling Act, had been approved by the Executive Yuan and would be sent to the Legislative Yuan for review. The new act will incorporate the 5R principles, the 3Rs (Reduction, Reuse and Recycling) as well as the two additional Rs of Energy Recovery and Land Reclamation. Implementing the 5R mechanisms into law is intended to work towards “the ultimate goal of zero waste through total recycling” (Recycling Laws International, 27 September 2013).
