BSI has published its annual Supply Chain Risk Insights 2021 Report identifying the trends and associated risks likely to impact global supply chains in the year ahead. According to the report regulatory changes, food fraud, and the ongoing effects of COVID-19 are the primary causes of supply chain disruptions. New standards and regulation
The European Commission has proposed new rules and actions aiming to turn Europe into the global hub for trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI). The combination of the first-ever legal framework on AI and a new Coordinated Plan with Member States will guarantee the safety and fundamental rights of people and businesses, while strengthening AI uptake, investment and innovation across the EU. New rules on Machinery will complement this approach by adapting safety rules to increase users' trust in the new, versatile generation of products. To organise and develop standardisation work on this issue, CEN and CENELEC have established the CEN-CENELEC Joint Technical Committee 21 ‘Artificial Intelligence’.
Ecommerce Europe states that the European Commission has published an update (822 kB) of its Industrial Strategy to lead the global transition towards climate neutrality and digitalisation.

ISO has recently formed expert committee ISO/TC 315 Cold chain logistics to develop standards in this field to help the industry be more efficient, reduce potential losses and carry out safe and reliable services.
ANSI has published a new standard entitled ANSI/PLASTICS B151.27-2021: Safety Requirements For Robot / Injection Molding Machine Systems, enhancing the efficiency of injection moulding machines by pairing them with robotics.

Automation, robotisation and blockchain technology
Researchers at Politeknik Negeri Sriwijaya have published a paper (939 kB) in SINERGI entitled ‘Motion control analysis of two collaborative arm robots in fruit packaging system’.
WUR has published an article about blockchain in agriculture. Blockchain provides consumers, farmers and other stakeholders with information, and it simplifies certification and fraud detection. It can be used to improve transparency, sustainability, and fair compensation.
Holland Circular Hotspot (in Dutch) and UPCM have published a report (23 MB) with insights and examples from the Netherlands for a circular manufacturing industry. They want to inspire the manufacturing industry around the world to start doing circular business.
Murray State University has published an Honors Thesis (4 MB) by Lauren Zinzilieta entitled Automated Bottling Station – Packaging System.
Fictiv has published their ‘2021 State of Manufacturing Report’ revealing an industry that is already quickly rebounding with investments in digital transformation aimed at improving speed, resilience and sustainability.
