Robots on the move - interaction with the real world
Currently, most robots are seen in industry where they support repetitive tasks, such as in the assembly lines of cars or in the production of microchips. However, in the near future the robot should find his way in less structured environments as well, to be able to work in healthcare or in hazardous environments, such as disaster areas. For his thesis (89.49 MB), PhD researcher Wouter Houtman (Eindhoven University of Technology) investigated the interaction of robots with their environment and developed algorithms to improve their movements in ‘the real world’.

Randstad Workmonitor 2021 update reveals workers’ sentiments
The latest Workmonitor by Randstad (88 kB) finds that more than half (56%) of global workers are on a job hunt, with 30% actively looking and a quarter (26%) recently changing jobs. Food industry Salary and Job Satisfaction Survey results
Employees in the food and beverage industry fared pretty well during the pandemic, says trade journal Food Processing based on their 2021 Salary and Job Satisfaction Survey (1.99 MB). Job satisfaction was 63%. However a long-term threat is the ageing of the workforce: 50% of the 404 respondents are aged over 50.

Disconnected and lonely after COVID, employees favour robots for HRM support
The COVID-19 pandemic has left employees feeling lonely and disconnected from their own lives, according to a new study by Oracle and Workplace Intelligence, an HR research and advisory firm. Notably, 82%believe robots can support their careers better than a human by giving unbiased recommendations (37%); quickly answering questions about their career (33%) or finding new jobs that fit their current skills (32%).
