Amazon CTO shares future on e-commerce at retail conference

01 May 2015

Amazon CTO Werner Vogels presented his views on the future of e-commerce on April 16th at the What’s Going On In (R)etailing?! conference. He described how technology enables the company to understand the shopping behaviour of its customers. Preventing the Paradox of Choice is key: the more options a consumer has to choose from, the unhappier he or she gets. Amazon effectively constrains the amount of possible choices by additionally showing item-to-item (this product was bought in combination with that product), item-to-peer (others who bought this also bought that) and item-in-trend (everybody wants this) data. The future of Amazon web-based services was discussed as well.
