Switzerland moving forward with resource efficiency by proposing changes in law

27 February 2014

The Swiss Federal Office of Environment (OFEV) has announced that the Federal Council is moving forward with plans to revise Chapters 5 and 7 of the Law on Environmental Protection in an effort to transition to a greener economy that reduces the depletion of natural resources and environmental damage.
The Swiss plan focuses on a number of areas such as waste reduction and raw materials use. The Federal Council would be given authority to establish mandatory collection and recycling of all packaging if needed and issue regulations on waste recycling if the waste products or environmental considerations require it (Recycling Laws International, 14 February 2014).
