Water resistant and oxygen barrier properties of PVA films

29 April 2015

Researchers at Yonsei University in the Republic of Korea, prepared five different cross-linked poly(vinyl alcohol)/boric acid (PVA/BA) hybrid films to enhance the thermal stability and barrier properties of pure poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). Their properties including barrier properties, thermal stability, transparency, and mechanical properties were investigated as a function of the boric acid (BA) content.
They concluded that the properties of the cross-linked PVA/BA hybrid films make them potential candidates for versatile applications as coatings, films, and packaging materials. An article about the research is published in Progress in Organic Coatings.
