E-commerce shipping costs estimated

26 March 2015

The costs associated with shipping and returning online purchased goods in The Netherlands have been estimated at €150 million for the 4th quarter of the year 2014 in a study conducted by NVC. The study took place in the context of the NVC innovation project on Web Retail Packaging and the NVC position paper ‘Packaging as Driver for the Sustained Future of E-Commerce’ which was published October 2nd, 2014.
The results were obtained by combining the sales results reported by the Dutch e-commerce traders organisation Thuiswinkel.org (Thuiswinkel Monitor) with the industry insights on the distribution of different e-commerce deliveries, shipment costs and percentage of goods returned.
