Plastic bottle recycling grew 97 million pounds in 2014, increasing 3.3%, to top 3 billion pounds for the year, according to figures released recently by the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR) and the American Chemistry Council (ACC). The recycling rate for plastic bottles climbed 1.0% to 31.8% for the year. The recycling rate for HDPE bottles rose to 33.6% and the collection of PP bottles also increased.
The 25th annual National Post-Consumer Plastics Bottle Recycling Report marks the twenty-fifth consecutive year that Americans have increased the pounds of plastic bottles collected for recycling since the survey began in 1990 (News Release APR, 5 November 2015).
