US: Hawaii to ban single-use plastic bags across the state

23 February 2015

Effectively, Hawaii has banned single-use plastic bags across the state, although it has done so through a patchwork of differing county ordinances. A bill sponsored by 12 state senators and introduced on January 29 seeks to bring consistency to the ordinances.
HB 1507 would require the Hawaii Department of Health to establish a working group. The group would prepare a report with recommendations, including any proposed legislation, to the Hawaii State Legislature by November 30, 2015. The bill was referred to the Committee on Energy and Environmental Protection and the Committee on Consumer Protection and Commerce (State Recycling Laws Update, 9 February 2015).
