Two revised standards published for transport packaging for dangerous goods

21 October 2013

Recently two revised standards were published providing requirements and test procedures for transport packaging for dangerous goods. NEN-EN-ISO 16495 specifies the information needed for the design type testing of packaging, Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) and large packaging intended for use in the transport of dangerous goods. Plastics packaging/IBC material used in packaging for dangerous goods can be attacked by the chemical contents of the package. Such effects are caused by different mechanisms such as environmental stress cracking (ESC) chemical degradation and/or swelling. NEN-EN-ISO 13274 specifies the requirements and test methods for compatibility testing of this packaging (World Packaging Standardisation Newsletter, October 2013).
