Research: Supply chain scheduling with receiving deadlines

11 March 2014

Researchers at Kean University USA studied multi-echelon (stage) supply chain networks. The study was motivated by the logistic challenges faced by a company that designs/purchases and distributes various backpacks, handbags etc. Before arriving at regional markets, the products must be finalized and packaged at third-party processing centres (PCs).
Each PC starts its production (assembly and packaging) only after all the supplies required for the production batch have arrived, and sends its shipments to the customer network only after the entire batch is completed. An article about the research is published in the Journal of the Operational Research Society.
