NL NVWA: Keep pre-filled replacement cartridges for e-cigarettes out of the way of children

17 December 2013

Keep pre-filled replacement cartridges for e-cigarettes out of the way of children, the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) warns. These cartridges and ampoules containing nicotine liquid are available in the shop or on the internet. A small sip of the liquid can be lethal for children. In 2013 6 incidents with these pre-filled replacement cartridges were reported.
Therefore the NVWA advises limiting the amount of nicotine in the replacement cartridges or making the packaging child-safe. The NVWA also advises parents to keep the cartridges out of their children’s reach and sight and to put the cartridges away immediately after use (News Item NVWA, 28 November 2013).
