Dutch NVWA advises parents to keep liquid caps with washing up liquid away from children

24 September 2013

Liquid caps, pouches filled with washing liquid made of water-soluble film, look like sweets leading to an increasing number of accidents with young children (0-4 years old). The NVWA Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (Nederlandse Voedsel- en Warenautoriteit) advises parents to keep these liquid caps away from children. The producers of the liquid caps are working on making the packaging in which the caps are kept less attractive. They will also place safety warnings on the packaging. At the beginning of October most of the packaging is expected to be adapted.
The Dutch NVIC, National Poison Information Centre (Nationaal Vergiftigingen Informatie Centrum) has conducted a study for the NVWA on the amount of accidents that take place with this new type of washing liquid packaging (News Item NVWA, 23 September 2013).
