NL: Reducing amount of plastic bags not legally regulated for the time being

07 May 2014

In a letter sent to the Tweede Kamer (the House of Representatives), State Secretary of Infrastructure and Environment Mansveld explains how reduction of the use of plastic bags will be executed. The branches have to make a step-by-step plan on how they plan to reduce the amount of bags in their branches. These plans must be ready by June at the latest. One of the options is asking the customers a small fee for a bag.
The branches have also been asked to start a campaign as soon as possible making the importance of reducing the amount of plastic bags used clear to entrepreneurs and consumers. If the plans do not have enough result, then regulations will be prepared.
