NL: Results LCA-study carrier bags

02 February 2015

The Dutch Knowledge Institute on Sustainable Packaging (KIDV) has published the results of an LCA study of carrier bags. In the study ‘DoorTAStend’ so-called big shoppers, middle-sized carrier bags and small bags of different sizes were compared with each other.
The results show that (re)use of big shoppers or middle-sized carrier bags made of sustainable materials is less of a burden on the environment than small bags that are only used once. The most sustainable materials for big shoppers were found to be PP, PET and jute. For the middle-sized bags PET, (recycled) LDPE and recycled paper proved the most sustainable materials (News Item KIDV, 23 January 2015).
