NL: Making plastic from vegetable waste

25 June 2015

The Dutch province North Holland sees possibilities for the circular economy: reusing raw materials as much as possible. For example, fruit and vegetable waste could be used to make plastic.
The food industry in the province North Holland is responsible for more than half of the industrial waste generated in the province. 80 to 90% of this waste is used for anaerobic digestion, composting and animal feed. The province asked the Delft University of Technology to study the possibilities for higher quality reuse of the waste. The results show possibilities for reuse of at least five waste products, including fruit and vegetable waste (News Article Province North Holland, 4 June 2015).
