Ten million Dutch online shoppers

27 August 2015

Research by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) in the Netherlands concludes that in 2014, more than ten million internet users bought something online. The most frequent purchases were for trips, clothes and event tickets. The report also states that, in comparison to 2013, the number of household products sold online grew from 31% to 39%. Also, a strong increase in the amount of online bought groceries was noticed.
These growths in online purchasing are in part thanks to ease of payment in the Netherlands, which is mostly (92%) performed though online banking. Also, 28% of the Dutch online purchases were performed for products from other EU-countries (Press Release CBS, 27 July 2015).
