NL: Inspectorates give signal about risks of certifications

23 January 2015

In this signal the Inspectorate SZW, the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) and the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) identify the risks they see in certification systems. Based on these risks they wrote a number of criteria that certification systems need to comply with in order to provide enough certainty for inspectorates to use these certifications as support for their inspections.
One of the things mentioned in the signal is that the NVWA has determined, from a sample of the inspection results, that for only 59% of the certified producers of food product the certification is justified (Website Government of the Netherlands, 14 January 2015).
