France: New plan to reduce waste and boost recycling

26 November 2014

On November 7, the French Minister of Ecology, Durable Development and Energy presented her ministry’s plan for reducing waste and boosting recycling to the National Waste Council. The plan, which was approved earlier this year, covers 2014-2020. Implementation by Council members is viewed as vital for the plan to reach its goals.
The plan contains four primary objectives, including reducing waste generation through prevention and reuse. Two 2020 goals: reducing household waste generation by 10% and decoupling economic growth (GDP) from environmental costs by 4%. Another objective is to reduce landfill disposal of waste by 30% by 2020 (Recycling Laws International, 24 November 2014).
