European Parliament Committee amends draft plastic waste resolution

09 December 2013

The European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety has amended the draft plastic waste resolution. The draft resolution remains on schedule to be introduced to the full Parliament (plenary) in January when it could be revised further. The final version will also need to be approved by the Council of Ministers. Among the newly added points: ‘While plastic packaging helps to maintain the quality and extend the shelf life of products, it is not always necessary for product conservation’ and ‘Products and/or packaging should include indications for consumers on how to increase plastics sorting and recycling’ (Recyling Laws International, 2 December 2013).
