EU project Pulp2Value: new value chains for sugar beet

24 August 2015

Wageningen UR Food & Biobased Research is launching Pulp2Value: a European project coordinated by Cosun to extract more value from sugar beet pulp. After undergoing bio-refinery and other conversion processes, residue from the common sugar beet, can be deployed in ambitious applications for detergents, personal care products, paints and coatings, composite materials and quality plastics.
Sugar beet is an important crop and the sugar-rich green material is now used mainly in foodstuffs and animal feed, but the lifting of the sugar quota in 2017 will open up opportunities for a whole range of potential applications in chemicals and materials (Press Release Wageningen UR, 7 July 2015).
