EU: Committee to consider changes food packaging regulations

01 December 2015

The European Parliament's Committee on Environment, Public Health and Food Safety has decided to consider possible changes to the Food Contact Materials Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, opening a new project 2015/2259(INI).
European environmental organizations such as ChemTrust have been highlighting problems with chemicals migrating from packaging to food for more than a year, and some national government agencies such as Germany's Federal Environment Agency have also expressed concerns about the problem, particularly chemicals migrating from paper and cardboard packaging (Recycling Laws International, 23 November 2015).
