Sustainable packaging design - A business case study

28 January 2015

For her thesis at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden, Stina Tang evaluated the applicability of sustainable packaging design practices and theories in a business case study, and also the value generated in the case study. Two major Swedish companies collaborated with KTH, using a pair of reading glasses as an example. The results were a review of 5 sustainable packaging design practices and theories and the design of a new packaging. The conclusion was that all 5 practices and theories were applicable in theory, but in practice, 2 of them were not economically viable. The economic value generated at the end of the case study was a 720% increase in shipping efficiency.
