Portion control is #1 anti-obesity tool

05 January 2015

Portion control is the most effective instrument to fight the global obesity epidemic, according to the McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) study ‘Overcoming obesity: An initial economic analysis’. Labelling holds the 9th place in terms of estimated impact.
Obesity is one of the top three global social burdens generated by human beings (after smoking and armed violence). More than 2.1 billion people—nearly 30 percent of the global population—are overweight or obese. That’s nearly two and a half times the number of people who are undernourished. The MGI-study includes 74 interventions to address obesity in 18 areas that are being discussed or piloted somewhere around the world.
