Belgians prefer curbside collection over deposit scheme

27 August 2015

According to a recent survey of Belgian residents only 22% would like to see a container deposit scheme implemented. 45% said they prefer to keep the current system in which beverage containers are placed in special bags for curbside collection. The remaining 33% had no clear preference for either option.
In regard to reducing packaging litter, 90% of respondents called for local governments to impose harsher penalties for littering. 87% of respondents support greater public awareness of littering and its consequences, and 82% wanted to see more recycling containers placed in public spaces. The survey was conducted for Fost Plus by iVOX BVBA (Recycling Laws Update Bulletin, 29 July 2015).
