Analysing recycled food grade PET

15 October 2015

In 2008 the EU Commission published Regulation (EC) no 282/2008 for recycled plastics intended to come into contact with foods. Two of the main purposes of the regulation are to define the conditions under which a recycling process should be run and managed and how an application to EFSA to have the process authorized can be made.
In June 2015 Technical Specification CEN/TS 16861 based on FP7 Project SuperCleanQ was published. The TS represents a novel, cost effective and relatively quick quality assurance tool that would support new process development and assist organisations to conform to the EC regulations on recycled plastics (World Packaging Standardisation Newsletter, October 2015).
