Overview of polymer nano clay composites for packaging

26 March 2015

Researchers at Yonsei University in South Korea have reviewed the existing studies on polymer/clay nanocomposites used for improving the water and moisture barrier in coatings. Clays have been and continue to be one of the more important industrial minerals. Research and development activities are continually resulting in new and innovative clay products.
Some new and improved clay products include tailored or engineered paper coating kaolins, nanocomposites for plastics, etc. The use of mineral pigments in coating to provide improved barrier properties has recently been gaining attention. An article about the research is published in Material Science & Engineering.
