Structuring sustainability marks should help to make choice

26 November 2015

The meaning, use and future of sustainability marks are quite regularly subject of discussion. Together with a number of social organisations and the Dutch government, the Dutch ‘Alliance Sustainable Food’ (Alliantie Verduurzaming Voedsel) is looking at the possibility to objectively structure the sustainability marks that can be found on food products.
Together the parties want to determine what a good, robust and trustworthy mark looks like. This makes it possible for the consumer to make well-founded choices. It will also help companies that want to place marks on their packaging or want to buy products with sustainability marks (News Item ‘Alliance Sustainable Food’).
