NL: Investigation large number of quality marks for food

24 March 2015

In a letter to the Dutch House of Representatives, State Secretary Dijksma writes that a great number of quality marks is being used, and that it is necessary to investigate the structuring of these quality marks. Because of the international dimension and the private character of the quality marks The Sustainability Consortium has been identified as potential vehicle to reduce the number of quality marks.
A single quality mark or traffic light system is deemed unworkable or unrealistic. The Sustainable Food Alliance now has the initiative to come with a proposal to reduce the number of quality marks for food products (Website Government of the Netherlands, 11 March 2015).
