NL: Inspectorate advises separate declaration heavy metals

02 February 2015

NVC has asked the Dutch Inspectorate (ILT) whether a declaration that the packaging materials comply with the Essential Requirements is enough, or whether it is necessary to ask for a separate declaration on the absence of heavy metals.
According to ILT experience shows that packaging suppliers do not always make a link between the two subjects. Because of this it would be more sensible for packaging buyers to ask for a separate declaration for each of the two. Experience also shows that the declaration does not always fulfill the expectations of the customer. Therefore it is also sensible to ask for supporting documents like test reports. One can also have the packaging tested.
If you have any questions about this subject, please contact Helen Crowe.
With NVC MERGE (Members-only Environmental Regulations Guide) you can stay up-to-date with the environmental requirements for your packaging. MERGE is exclusively for NVC members and there are no costs involved.
