FNLI: Alliance Stop child marketing has nothing to add

03 March 2015

The Alliance Stop child marketing (Alliantie Stop kindermarketing) urges that the food criteria, the unimpaired definition of ‘advertising’ according to article 1 of the Netherlands Advertising Code (Nederlandse Reclame Code) and an age limit of 13 years should be applied.
In their reaction the FNLI claims the action is unnecessary. The industry already took the initiative to lower the age limit to 13 years. Advertising for children has already decreased rapidly in the past few years and self regulation works well. The dietary criteria are also in place, at least for children up to 13 years old. These have also been set at a European level (News letter WAAR&WET, 24 February 2015).
