EFSA Opinions on two post-consumer PET recycling processes

01 June 2015

EFSA has published scientific opinions on the recycling process Evertis Iberica (RECYC0123), which is based on the EREMA Multi-Purpose Reactor (MPR) technology, and the recycling process Terrachim (RECYC122), which is based on the VACUREMA Prime® technology.
It was demonstrated that these recycling processes under evaluation are able to ensure that the level of migration of potential unknown contaminants into food is below a conservatively modelled migration of respectively 0.15 µg/kg food and 0.1 μg/kg food. The Panel concluded that the recycled PET obtained from these processes are not considered of safety concern when used for the intended uses (EFSA Journal, 28 May 2015).
