DK: Container deposit scheme agreement with 2 German states

23 June 2015

Germany and Denmark have separate container deposit schemes and the deposit values vary. The Danish EPA has announced that an agreement has been reached with officials in Schleswig-Holstein to allow Danes to pay the Danish container deposit on Germany-made beverages purchased in Schleswig-Holstein, then obtain a deposit refund in Denmark. To a much lesser degree, some beverage retailers in the state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern would also be covered by the agreement.
Under the proposed scheme, Danes could pay either the Danish or German deposit on the German containers, but only the Danish deposit could later be redeemed in Denmark (Recycling Laws International, 2 June 2015).
